Reading to kids in costume

School administrators highly recommend that Community Leaders participate in Reading programs in their schools. The kids engage more and are more apt to developing an even better understanding of the moral of the stories and how they can apply it to their daily life. Breakdown: Attain it easily.
There are many studies that prove how the kids react to others reading to them positively; Encouraging them to read more and develop outstanding social skills.
I was compelled to write this post because I was asked to go and read to some kids at a local school. I was delighted! For this is a part of my mission: To guide the present generation.
I've learned that reading to kids in costume presents an even greater impact. Lady Catherine (my character :)) arrives to the schools with Victorian attire, a large hat and a sweet disposition that the children enjoy. She's witty, elegant and stern on proper etiquette all-in-to one. They are mesmerized by her appearance and listen to her intently. She asks questions throughout her reading to make sure everyone is comprehending the story; The power of Repetition.
It is proven that kids adapt to characters faster than with others around them. There are pros and cons to this fact though. PROS Introducing kids to characters that are different than themselves produce an inquisitive mindset and increases "mimicology" (a word I made up). They are more prone to mimic a make believe character faster than any other method, from my experience. CONS We will have to continue to keep up with all the tools of the trade regarding the characters. For instance, there are toys, meal time items, clothes, shoes, decorations, TV shows, APPS, party supplies, and the list goes on. We end up wanting to please the child with what they feel comfortable with rather than giving them what they need to take the torch when it's their turn.
I would suggest to introduce the kids to real life characters that keep them in the real world instead of a make believe one.
Thanks for reading my blog....
Get on with it!
Lady Catherine
